Traditional kakchiquel village facing volcanos and sunset views.

At 1590 mts ASL, San Antonio Palopo is located nine kilometers from Panajachel through a paved road. One of the appeals of this village is its peaceful life. The constructions are in the hillside of the mountain with just around 9000 inhabitants, 92 % of which are indeginous kakchikel. Famous for his cultivations of onions on terraces around the slopes of the villages,its colonial church with the most beautiful views and its population still using traditional textiles particularly the men. Walking through the village one can see people wearing bright huipiles . Also interesting is the Integral Cooperative of Craft Production which reunite 140 individuals where you will see their weaving textile patern unique to the village of San Antonio, weaving to share their heritage.

Recently a Mayan cooperative trained by World Famous Potter, Ken Edwards start to produce ceramic pottery. The clay in the region is perfect to create wonderful stoneware mugs, plates and crosses... The Mayan families trained in this art hand paint each piece all work is done with gas kilns in small shop showing high quality and creativity.Check their web site for ceramics and textiles collection.

THe village is now connected with the coastal road through a steep curvy road which opens new areas for development. Not so much waterfront property available but many with great potential. San Antonio is located in the first area of appreciation around the lake with its stunning volcanos and sunset views.
